Missing module?

I'm trying to work through distutils, and the warning file is telling me
that whichdb is trying to get dbm. Since it's a top-level import, I'm
under the impression it has to be archived, but I can't seem to find
dbm.py in my distribution. Does anyone have any experience with this?
