      Lesson 1

      <?php
      echo "Hello World!";
      ?>

      Lesson 2

      <?php
      $variable= "Hello World!";
      echo $ variable;
      ?>

      etc.etc...

        Yes, I have tried google, and I have seen some possible results.
        However, I am not knowledgeable enough about php to know the difference
        between a good tutorial and a worthless tutorial. On the other hand, I
        am wise enough to know that for every good online resource, there are
        two worthless onces. I was hoping the people here would be able to tell
        me how to avoid the dross. Sadly, at least in your case, you appear as
        ill-informed as I am in the matter of discerning good php resources from
        bad.

              www.php.net would be the best place to start.

                  Woo, touchy, after I gave you two free lessons too.

                  Yes, online resources are variable. www.php.net is a definitive
                  resource but I would not recommend it for a newb. Trouble is, an
                  experienced PHP coder is unlikely to be evaluating newbie tutorials.

                  You need to avoid ones which assume register globals is on on the server
                  or that give notices when full error reporting is used. But if you are
                  a newb, this probably won't mean anything to you.

                  If you find something you like, post a link here and I'm sure someone
                  will evaluate it.

                  But the best thing is not to worry too much and just get coding.
