    FloodAssassin

    Hello,
I just wanted to introduce a "little" project. It is called
FloodAssassin and was written for webdevelopers. This project helps you
to prevent spam and trackback-entries in guestbooks and comments.
It stands under the GPL, so you can modify it, as you wish. But if you
    do, let me know ;)

You can find the project with a little tutorial and download-link under

    So how does FloodAssassin work?
    Well, it uses 3 Layers.
In the first Layer it checks the content, the name, the mail address and
the IP (only the content has to be given, but better if everything is
there) with rules. If it found accords, the message gets points like
    SpamAssassin does.

In the second Layer it checks the words and the length. Also emotions
    are important.

In the third and last Layer links and email addresses get counted. Each
link and email address adds 0.7 points.

If the result of every point is more or equal 3 it means, that the
message is probably spam. If the result is higher or equal 6, I think
    you can ignore the message.

I hope you have fun with this project and find use with it.

    Greetings
    -Benjamin Falk

You are a negative guy jeswine.
Benjamin posts a clear message introducing his tool that is released
under GPL. It might be a nice tool for some.
It is also his first and only message about this project.

I do not consider this spam.

I'm not saying it's not useful - in fact, I, also, like the idea and
will investigate it the next time I need such.

The problem is, how many hundreds of thousands of other products could
also be useful? And what would happen to these newsgroups if everyone
              their favorite project?

I think you can see the problem...

You can look for newsgroups with "ads" or "announceme nts" in their
names. You can also post things like this in response to problems that
such a product is intended to resolve.

Of course, that means you need to actually participate in the newsgroup
                  - but that's what it's there for, after all.
