accent char é in php

hello all

i have a problam inserting french accent chars into my table

i post similer qustion in mysql forum so far no reply,

i have a list of words in franch (i dont even know what they mean)

some of the words have xc3xa9 writen instead of é
i am not sure in what charset xc3xa9 is, what i would like to know so i can resolve this is what it should b
i can replace it either in php or in sed but i dont know to what

any idea?

i thought that maybe ther is a way to tell mysql to treat a string as a special char. cuz i dont have a french keybord

it seems like you charset is wrong/not supporting french words. there are several ways to do this. first your webpage/webserver should support a charset that supports french words (eg utf8) and then you shuld also choose the right charset/collation for you mysql tabel (eg utf8).

the collation of a table can be changed eg with hpmyadmin.
