To answer to the chap who asked about any experience with XAMPP on WISTA, here is mine :
I installed the XAMPP 1.6.0a on VISTA Professional. (I have the CUA deactivated).
Everything went OK through the Windows installer.
I just had a small problem to get Apache as a service :
- The installservice bat would not run properly until I changed Apache2 to Apache2.2 (I found that after reading the Windows Events)
- I had a conflict with Skype, so I had to disable the ability in Skype to use port 80 as a secondary port (Menu Tools / Options / Connexion).
- Also I had to make sure that the Vista firewall would let Apache and MySQL work properly
