Do you mean you are not able to save the changes or not able to execute the report??

Please provide what you are trying to modify?

Actually the datamodel has a query with one table. I added one more table and two join conditions in the where clause. after doing this it is taking long time to connect to the database and suddenly i get that report error. The report error dialog box has two buttons, debug and cancel.
the report closes for both and the changes are not saved.

      thank u

I think the session is expiring because of some syntax error in your query, or say "object does not exist error". Did you try connecting to the databse from report builder and then try modifying your query and check what happens?

Not really. Are you able to connect to the database from SQLPLUS? If Yes,
            Then try this:

Take the query from the reports builder, modify as you want and run that in SQL PLUS and check if it executes fine.

Now check if the modified query executes by hardcoding some values in WHERE condition and you get result atleast after filtering the data by hardcoding. Then you could probably look at using HINTS to improve the performance by forcing your query to use an index for the table that you are including in the Query.
