Database Instance

I am a new user of ORACLE 10g when I start em(Enterprise Manger) it shows
Database Instance down and Agent Connection to Instancealso down while Listener is up .can any body guide how to resolve this problem

In oracle the listener and instance are two separate entities, so you can have the listener running with the instance shutdown and visa versa.
executing shutdown immediate on the instance does not kill the listener. you need to use the lsnrctl to start and stop the listener.

it sounds like you need to start up your instance.

You need to start the service from ControlPanel ---> Administrative Tools ---> Services
