    what difference i and g makes in oracle version

    Hi All

    Please let me know exactly what difference i and g makes in oracle version i.e. when we say oracle 10g or oracle 11i

    It seems u are pretty new to this field.Otherwise u wont have put such a question.
    U are asking of 10g and 11i

    Basically 10g is a ORDBMS ,11i is ERP.

    These are two different things,used for different purposes.

    If u want 9i and 10g then i might explain u somthing.

      My question is why there is i and g exactly
      for e.g 11i or 11g exactly what difference i and g makes here.

        The i version started from 8i onwards. It stands for oracle internet.
        Because till then (in version 8)it did not support data transfer over the internet.Actual ly in those time internet was hardly used. This was supported in 8i.

        Next was 9i with some of the enhanced features of 8i

        Next was 10g, it stands for Oracle GRID,because it supports grid architecture.

        next in database is 11g

        As i said 11i is not database its ERP.
