unable to port forward my wireless router

i'm trying to create an open connection from outside (internet) through my router into one of my two computers connected to the wifi.

my external ip is (almost) 79.164.166.167
my internal ip is 192.168.10.103

the router is a wifi-router connected to the internet cable, and my computer is connected wirelessly to the router.

now, i've configured the router (thru the webpage of my isp), and added a port forward for port 4444 to port 4444 on 192.168.10.103.

in my thinking, this should forward any request to the externalip:4444 to internalip:4444 .

however, it doesnt work. if i connect to http://externalip, i get a user/pass prompt from the router. if i connect to http://externalip:4444 , i get no response (nonexistent page).

connecting through the internal network (192.168.10.101 => 192.168.10.103) is working fine. it's the outside connecting i cant get to work...

any help would be greatly appreciated! im on a ubuntu box, the other computer is windows vista (if it matters).

do i need to mess around with iptables, etc.? seems to me this is superfluous as it should all be open if i could just get through my own router!

I'm not an expert in this subject, but in my experience is you try to access http://externalip:4444 with your network (i.e 192.168.x.x) it doesn't work.

Try it from outside of your network.

that's verified: setup was good, just needed to go outside my network.

If I understand correctly you are trying to connect to one of your local "pc" from an outside connection... is this correct? If so Question 2. Do you have a DynamicDNS account setup? and also what is the model of your router. And does your router support DMZ?
