    Netsend in Vista

Hi, I'm trying to find something like netsend (removed from Vista), preferably without having to install something on the "target"-pc. Can somebody help?

use terminal services msg as a replacement

    D:\>msg
Send a message to a user.

    MSG {username | sessionname | sessionid | @filename | *}
    [/SERVER: servername] [/TIME: seconds] [/V] [/W] [message]

    username Identifies the specified username.
sessionname The name of the session.
sessionid he ID of the session.
@filename Identifies a file containing a list of usernames,
sessionnames, and sessionids to send the message to.
    * Send message to all sessions on specified server.
/SERVER: servername server to contact (default is current).
/TIME: seconds Time delay to wait for receiver to acknowledge msg.
/V Display information about actions being performed.
/W Wait for response from user, useful with /V.
message Message to send. If none specified, prompts for it
    or reads from stdin.

Syntax: msg @filename.txt type your message here

This doesn't seem to work, I've tried msg * "testing network messages" /v but that only resulted in msg is not recognized as an internal or external command, program or batchfile

it's still not working, altough terimnal services is on on both computers. Is it possible that this is due to Vista sending to an xp computer. Or could this be because of the router?

Try sending a message to yourself first and if you get it then the command works and the problem is indeed the router or the compatibility with xp. But I think its something with the command that is not right, maybe you need to be on a server to send messages, such as a terminal server. You can beta test windows 2008 server for free, just download the iso image and get the cd-key to your msn/hotmail account. I am going to try sending messages from my box today and will tell you if I was successfull in doing so.

            Good Luck.

I think the problem is indeed that you need to be on a server to do this, but it's not this important to me for having to install an extra OS on my laptop, since i'm going to sell it in a few days. But thanks for the help.
