    Small LAN Internet Disconnection Problem!

    Hi,

I am having this big headache causing problem for over seven months now!

I run an internetcafe and for over the past seven months I have been getting this really weird problem in which my internet connection drops (router has this security built-in in which it restarts) and then comes back on in about 30 seconds time!

The LAN setup is as follows:

I had a broadband ADSL modem which has two hubs connected to it and also the main computer and a printer.

Both hubs are from the same brand (D-Link) and have eight ports.

One of the hubs has all eight ports filled (six computers, one printer and of course the uplink)
The second one has only five ports filled (four computers and the uplink)

I have done the following already:

    - Replaced the router!
    - Replaced both hubs (temporary solution by replacing each and seeing if the problem persists).
    - Switched off every computer individually and checked if the problem might be to blame to one of the computers but it still occurred.
    - Replaced the cable connecting from the router to hubs. I got another cable and replaced the first hub and problem was still there so I replaced the cable from the second hub and problem was also still there.
    - Contacted my ISP to check it nothing was wrong from their side but they could not figure it out as well.
    - Replaced the cable from the main computer to router.
    - Switched off printers and checked if they caused the problem but no luck there as well.
    - Replaced the microfilter yet problem still persisted!!
    - Tried to put the adapter for the router on a different socket and still no luck.

There is one thing that I figured out while diagnosing the problem and that is if I download torrents (or use any p2p program) the chance of getting disconnected is WAY higher and the intervals between them are also WAY smaller!

I hope someone out there can help me solve this problem as I am really at my wits end and just don't know what could be causing the problem I am having!

What is the security module you are speaking of? Can you access your ADSL modem to configure it? If so, there should be a log of what is happening - the error message will help.

Do you notice this happening regularly, or does it happen rather randomly? After a busy night? A day or so after a busy time?

When was the last time you updated the firmware of the hubs/routers?
