Problem Adding a Computer to Domain

    Hi

I want to add a computer to domain but its giving me problem like:

    Network path cannot be reached....

I tried to run TCP Helper service but that was already running. I restarted the services but still not working..

DNS is fine. I checked every thing is working but still getting that rubbish error

Have you tried to disable Windows Firewall?

Can you ping the DC from the machine?

A trick I had to use on older domain types (NT 4) was to give the name of a DC when requested for the Domain Name. It recognises that it's a DC and uses it's domain. This can sometimes work.

Have you set your ip address in the same network with your dns server network?

There is no firewall, i can ping the DC, this problem usually happens to me when i plug network cable of different domain and dsl router assign an ip,dns, and router ip to this machine automaticllay and i surf the internet on this machine, then when i try to add this machine to any other domains, then it gives me the error of "Network path cannot be reached..."

          a bit explained:

I have two domains, abc.info & xyz.org (local domains) both domains have nothing to do with each other and are placed in different locations. both are connected to the internet through cisco dsl router, which assign ip auto(ip,dns, rou ter's ip).

now the problem occurs when i just plug the network cable (comming from switch) to a new machine (no ip so far, [workgroup] ) and as it gets the IP's from router, then it doesn't allow me to add this machine to the other network ( infact any other network) and give the error Network path cannot be reached....

Can you add other computers on your network to the domain?
Is your computer ip set to get your server dns address?
How are you entering your domain name?

Yes I can add any other computer to a domain.
yes it gets dns ip from server [server ip]

as i added all other i-e, -> myComputer Properties > computer name > and tried both as [Change] & [Network wizard]

Ok so the PC is on the domain but when you enter \\compname it tells you that the network path cannot be found right. Try using an ip address instead of the name when entering the path so like \\192.168.0.3

Also this has happened to so many people, if you have Norton, McaFee or Pc Cilin or Zone alarm installed they may be blocking you from connecting to the other computer, please make sure these are disabled or properly configured when connecting.

If you are on a domain, make sure your windows firewall is also off.

Give me some more Ideas of the setup.. such as how many computers, what router are you using to assign dhcp, any hubs involved?

                  Good Luck, Cyber.

no thats not the problem, when i enter \\computername it can browse , both with hostname & IP

there is no such firewall, even windows firewall has been blocked as well

                    Code:

cisco dsl router -> NAT enabled
windows server 2003 -> dns configured - > dhcp configured

The Problem, as already mentioned above is, that once a machine gets IP from DHCP of one domain/Network[so far just ip is assigned from 1st network not added with 1st network or domain], after then, when i try to add that machine to another domain/network (by right click on my computer -> properties -> computer name - > change -> select domain - > type domain name -> prompted for DC administrator username & pass: -> but as i type the username n pass (both are valid) its say Network path cannot be reached....

I tried to run TCP Helper service but that was already running. I restarted the services but still not working..

Ok so setup the cisco router to give out dhcp addressing to everybody and set it up so that the dns in the cisco router points to the static ip address of the server, now on the server side open up your connectors and tell them to forward the dns addresses provided by your isp. Once all this is done restart everything, make sure the computers can browse the internet regardless if they are added to the domain or not and then start adding them to the domain. Also whatever your domain name is, I usually put Domainname.loca l when adding the stations. Let me know if you need help with any of this.
