Asp.Net Gridview Datalist

I am new at programming Asp.Net. I used to program VB. I am trying to get a list of customers. Each time a customer is clicked on I would like to display their telephone number under the customers name. Right now I am able to put the telephone number in a new gridview or at the bottom of the page but not underneight. Please see if you can help me with an example of what I am trying to do.
