validation expression help

i have a uk validation expression

GIR 0AA|[A-PR-UWYZ]([0-9]{1,2}|([A-HK-Y][0-9]|[A-HK-Y][0-9]([0-9]|[ABEHMNPRV-Y]))|[0-9][A-HJKS-UW]) [0-9][ABD-HJLNP-UW-Z]{2})

The line break above is a space.
I would like to allow lower case letters aswell.

at the moment
N19 2UD is correct
n19 2ud is not, can you help me modify this please?

add (?-i) to the front of the expression should set case sensitive OFF:

(?-i)<expression>

that does not seem to work for me.
this is a val expression used for a asp.net customer validator control.
any other ideas?
maybe i am implementing it wrong,...
PLEASE HELP
