edit a document simultaneously

Hello all,

I'm looking for a SW that enables a team of 10-30 people
to edit a document simultaneously. The objects of documents are
SW development specifications.
I think about a client/server solution and a mechanism
to check out/check in chapters or subclauses.
Up to now I suffer from M$Word - so please help.
