rowupdating event

I am trying to access a text box in a grid that the user has changed. I tried a bunch of stuff in the RowUpdating event. None of them is giving me the value in the text box.

'doesn't work
Dim test As String = GridView1.Rows( 0).Cells(4).Tex t

' This doesn't show the value in the text box either.

Dim test As Integer = GridView1.Rows( e.RowIndex).Cel ls(4).Text


I do not have a template. I am binding the grid from a datatable. This works fine. I just need to reference a text column in the grid to update some oracle tables. Any help ASAP will be appreciated.

Have you tried something like:

CurrentLabel = e.Item.FindControl("your control") 
para.Value = CurrentLabel.Text 
(
