I am using Visual Studio 2005 to create an application that is
ultimately deployed to several computers. I currently publish the
application using VS 2005 via the Publish tab in the project
properties. I ultimately copy all resulting files to a web site/folder
and the application, when it is run from the computers on which it is
installed, checks the web site to see if there is a newer version
available and downloads and installs it if one is available. This all
works just as it should.
However, what I now want to do is to publish the application in such a
way that I can put the files that are generated by the publish up on a
web site from which they can be downloaded to one machine. Then,
someone will copy the files to a folder on a server that all computers
that need to run the application can "see." I want users to be able to
install the application by using the files in the aforementioned
folder. In addition, ideally, I want the application to automatically
look to the folder to see if a new version is available and then
install it automatically if present.
Please advise...
NOTE: The reason I need to do things this way is that when this
application goes live, some of the computers that need to run it will
not have internet access. They will, however, have access to a server
through a network that will be set up.
