Whatever gave you the idea that there are distinct groups like 'microsoft
    developers' 'linux developers',...
Very few developers are fixed to a specific platform, even if they use one
specific platform most of the time.
I have done projects on windows, linux, unix, BeOS, ...

With that out of the way, I don't think it is fair to say that Microsoft
oriented developers do no like other developers.
I don't know what made you think this, but generally, the people on this and
other newsgroups are polite and try to help everyone.

To be honest, there are arrogant linux developers as well. try to explain on
a linux developer oriented newsgroup that microsoft tools / windows has
specific features better than what you have on linux, and you'll get abused
    pretty quickly.

That does not mean that linux developers do not like other developers
    either.
It simply means that within all large groups of people, there are a number
of hot-heads who think that they are the sole persons who 'get it', while
all the rest are ignorant saps.
It is the same with pointless debates like which editor is better: VIM or
    emacs. (VIM btw ;-) ).

The best advice is to just ignore the zealots and arrogant a-holes.
The majority of the developers doesn't care if you use linux or windows, and
will try to help you regardless of that.
