Hi, I'm an experianced programmer from Spectrum, Amiga, VBA, VB6, MS Access.

But have not touched Java at all, I just wondered if its possible to make any cash writing software (games/apps) for mobile phones.

I guess there are loads of people already doing this.

Sure you can make some money. I don't think you are going to get rich doing it, but it might be fun.

Hi,

I would never say that there is going to be a huge amount of cash in the area of open source code programming. However, the company I work for makes its money writing custom mobile applications for businesses. That is really where the good money is, mobilising existing applications and processes within businesses increases the workers productivity and thats every bosses dream, so that would be the market i would target!
