Wireless Markup Language
This is the GSM/GPRS phone equivielent of HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). The reason that it exists separately to HTML is that a lot of phones (although this is getting less so) do not have the display capabilities of a computer the screen size being a lot smaller and sometimes without colour. So WML defines a markup language that is used to create cards of information that can be displayed of the limited screen of a mobile phone.
