    Broken pipe

I keep getting the message broken pipe when I try to print to certain printers on a Mac. Any ideas?

This seems to be a misnomer. Do you get the message when the Disk fails to mount?

I have incurred the broken pipe problem earlier as well. The problem occurred because I was running other programs while the operating system updater (from Software Update) was running. The way I fixed it was to go to Apple support, physically download the relevant software updater (in my case, it was entitled "MacOSXUpdCombo 10.4.9Intel.dmg ") and run it again. The problem will come because with a broken pipe you can not mount the downloaded updater under the system with the problem --you will need to boot and run it from a computer with a system that is working. I used a Power Book and connected the hard drive with broken system as a firewire drive.
