VMWare is owned by Oracle - that's just a branding logo.

The sound driver should be virtualized. I'm running XP through VirtualBox on Ubuntu as well (on an HP laptop), and sound works fine for me.

What driver do you show as currently loaded? Did you try updating via Windows Update? (Through Internet Explorer - I think it's an option in one of the menus - Tools or options, or something, it's all the way at the bottom. That'll get your XP up to date - depending on how old it is - my XP SP2 has a hard time updating)

Do you think, driveres are provided by virtual machine and support for them are depend on version and updates of guest os?

The drivers are provided by the OS, however the vm utilizes some of the drivers that are loaded.

Did you find out what network card is loaded in the VM?

Also, VirtualBox gets pretty peculiar with its network functionality - I have to switch between NAT'd and Bridged adapters (turn VM on, Devices -> Network Adapters menu) depending if I"m connected via ethernet cable or wireless. Have you tried switching between those and restarting the VM?

Now that the network is configured, have you attempted to run Windows Update?

Or were you able to open the device manager and check what is loaded as the audio device?
