How can I test IPTABLES in Linux?. Does RH Linux machine good enoough?

I have Redhat Linux machine with single ethernet interface, I need to test Iptables, Is one ethernet good enough to test iptables?.

Currently I can do ssh, ftp into redhat machine, also if I want to test connection tracking, do I need to download any new software?.

As usual, the answer is "It depends."

What do you need to test? If you want to test for connections from other machines (the usual situation) then one NIC is fine. I have modified iptables and tested the mods that way many times.
