linux boot from cd

hi all

i bought a acer laptop with linpus linux OS (line command)

and i want to format it or do something to install windows XP

i put the windows xp CD to boot from it, and it didn't

what should i do

is there any command to write or procedure to do to make it work

Hi eihabisaac!

Sure, you can get it working. First of all, you should download a Linux Live CD, for example Knoppix (you'll probably want the image KNOPPIX_V5.1.0C D-2006-12-30-EN.iso) and burn it to a CD. When you've done that, put the CD in the laptops CD/DVD drive and boot from it. When it prompts you to enter something, just press "Enter".

It will start up a full graphical linux system. When it's fully loaded, press Alt+F2 and enter

qtparted

This will open a partition editor for you. Choose your harddrive (probably /dev/sda) and delete all partitions. Then you should be able to restart your computer and install Windows XP.

Mind you, I too bought an Acer Laptop and that Linpus Linux is pretty useless. I choose to install Xubuntu Linux on it instead and that works great!
