(Advanced Question) i wanna make a completely new Desktop Environment thingy

    Hello

i wanna make a completely new Desktop Environment thing, not a new theme for KDe and things.

I'm looking at making a shell or graphical system for my own project. im planning on using FreeBSD as A base operating system, i just wanna make a graphical user interface system.

But, i don't know where to start.

any ideas, any tutorials that would suite my needs

    thanks for your help

Well, I searched online and came up with these threads about exactly the same question: ubuntuforums.or g and linuxquestions. org. You'll probably also want to read the Wikipedia article about Desktop Environments.

I'd recommend to study those Desktop Environments that are around - twm is a very basic one written in C and Xfce is quite lightweight.

Of course, you should also think about which graphics library you want to use - QT and GTK being the biggest ones.

There are also some quite good books available, maybe just have a look around online book stores and see if you can find documentations of current Desktop Environments and books about how to write them.

Apart from that, I can only wish you good luck.

    Greetings,
