You download the distribution of Linux you want, I use live cd's, and boot the computer from the cd then if you chose you are able to partition a section of your hard drive to run Linux and duel boot Windows/Linux or you are able to completely wipe the hard drive so it only has linux on it.

        Hi friend,
You can very well install LINUX in your system with the dual boot environment.or, you can use vmware(it is a typical installation uses virtualisation)

        For a Dual boot,
you need to have atleast 10 GB(im not sure) of disk space.Because you need to install web servers for your LAMP
Choose a custom partition in the LINUX Installation wizard
and create 3 important partitions in the free space
        /boot, /swap, remaining for /
        for
        /boot - leave 100MB
/swap - leave the space of (2*RAM size of your computer)
        remaining can filled by /
        Thats all.
After this choose all the requirments like webserver..etc
