    Linux Fedora Core 6

    i downloaded the cd ISO images for Linux Fedora Core 6, i burned the first one to a dvd.
    i used DigitalMedia Home by Roxio, the burn went file until the very end, it said that there was a error during the burn and i had to try again. I opened the cd, and found a bunch of files there. So i tried to boot up, but it said i was missing a kernel iso

    any ideas?

    If you have a DVD burner, you should just burn the DVD ISO, it's a lot easier than burning 5 CDs.

        Well you are going to need all 5 of the CDs to complete the install of FC6. If you can't handle that, I would suggest getting a smaller distro such as Gentoo, and then building it from the minimalist install. I think the stage 2 install is only a couple hundred MB.

            Debian Linux also has a 'net install' CD, and I haven't tried installing Gentoo in a while, but when I did... it took a little bit for my computer to get up and running... (Debian would probably be a bit faster, unless Gentoo has created a new install program)

              You are right, Gentoo compiles all packages from source, creating a finely tailored OS. If you don't have the connection speed (or the time to devote to this) Debian may be a better way to go.

                The OP did cite time as a reason he was unable to download the Fedora catalogue. (and Debian is highly configurable. Not that I'm biased. Or using Debian now...)

                :: Possible thread hijack::

                Has Gentoo updated their install program? I vaguely remember hearing something about them recommending Stage 3 installs to more people, but can't remember if that came with a more streamlined install. I've always wanted to go back to Gentoo (that laptop is long gone at this point :()

                  I don't like Fedora Core 6. I had many problems with disk 3, I downloaded and burned it multiple times but each time it failed. Fedora Core 5 was fine and I hope they do better with Fedora Core 7 because I certainly will use that if the download is fine.

                    I think I just have difficulties with ISO CDs. I used a DVD to get FC6, and it worked well for me. (Then again, I have good bandwidth at my work...) My problem with FC/RH in general is the look and feel. They're trying to make it seem too much like Windows - and they're putting their efforts into making warm and fuzzy graphics instead of making it more user-friendly. I still find it easier to change my resolution by editing /etc/X11 by hand than using the GUI's lame tool.

                      Some download managers will allow you perform MD5 Checksums on ISOs after you download them, so you don't end up burning coasters.

                        Doubt it. Though, I haven't touched Gentoo in over a year.
                        I always liked Stage 1. But that's cause I like to act all thirteen thirty-seven.

                          If you are looking for a quick OS to install there is also Ubuntu.

                          it is a Debian spinoff

                              Are you guys hashing your downloads after you get them on you machine? Granted a hash of the current Fedora Distro takes about 20 min but then you know that all the bits are there.
