responsetext has html tags removed

When i set the contents of mydiv with a html formatted string

document.getEle mentById("mydiv ").innerHTML=xm lHttp4.response Text;

it displays the data without the html formatting tags.

my responsetext contains "<tr><td>xx x</td><tr><tr><td> zzzz</td></tr>"

the output looks like this "xxxzzzz"

What is necessary to get this data displayed correctly?
