I want to have a fixed width dropdown but the longer elements(whose length is greater than width of the dropdown) are getting cut. Now I also want to view the content of dropdown elements by moving mouse over them. Tried tool tips but it is not working with dropdown.Could there be any varible size dropdown part that takes the width of largest element but the upper part remains of fixed width.

This will be a problem in IE. If you check other browsers, it should be OK.
