how can I find documentation on screen, window etc?

    Hi,

I an trying to figure out how to use some browser objects like screen,
window, parent, document, top etc. These are available as built-in global
variables when programming the browser using javascript.

it seems that they are not part of the HTML DOM (well, "document" is but
properties like "document.locat ion" aren't) so I don't know where to look.

They are described in netscape's documentation for javascript 1.3 but that
is well out of date now. The newer netscape documentation confines itself to
just the language features and leaves everything else to the DOM
    specification.

there are lots of tutorials and unofficial information, but I could really
use a spec to go by, so that I can produce some portable code. Any clues
please? - all this "trial and error" programming is driving me mad.

    many thanks

    Andy

Use the Netscape 1.3 client side JavaScript reference documentation,
what it says about window, screen, navigator is usually implemented by
    other browsers.
As for other browsers, for MS IE check
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...obj_window.asp
for the window object and have a look at the MSDN library in general for
    the documentation on other objects.
    As for Opera check

Thanks for the quick response and the links. At least now I know there is no
      single standard

BTW I have also found the "missing" documentation for newer versions of
netscape at the mozilla site - http://www.mozilla.org/docs/dom/.
