Sub menus

Does anyone know how I can make a sub menu so that when the mouse
pointer is over a menu, another sub-menu will appear with a selection
of options?

I've tried looking at other sites to see how they have done this but
the ones I have looked at tend to have a whole lot of other
information in them, and I can't seem to discern what is what.
Just so you know what I'm talkig about have a look at the top menu of
this URL http://www.ntlworld.com/ and hover over 'channels' 'services'
'help' 'broadband' where a drop-down sub-menu will appear. That is
similar to what I'm after except I want a horizontal one instead o a
vertical one.

Any pointers or simple examples would be terriffic.

Anyone know how to overlay images? Use trasparency so a button
overlaps the other?
