Do you mean Microsoft Word?
What about Google Docs, Microsoft One Note, Skype etc. It's already there, no need to design it.
Do you also want to implement your design, or just design it?
Implementation will take you a lot of man-years....
Just start with something easy, like a server-client application in Java. You'll learn alot while doing it yourself.
