what is the difference between function and method in java?

The method invocation takes an argument and the function also takes an argument so this really confuses, what exactly is the difference between them?

    Harmless,
I haven't done much past the "Hello World" in JAVA; however, from the documentation I've read (working my way thru http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/java/index.html) I've yet to see the term "function" used... in-fact, lurking in other site forums I get the distinct impression that the term function has no meaning in JAVA; is often only used by old programmers like myself and those that program in one of the C-languages such that it actually refers to method...

so in short.... (I may be wrong here so someone please correct me if I am):

The term "Function" has no meaning in JAVA and those that are kind Gurus to the language gently tut-tut and understand that the one intended to state method.
