OutOf MemoryError

Hi I need your help i am developing a mobile app with lots of sign language images,i have a set of small images that im trying to stretch to fit the whole screen,and i am getting outOfMemmoryErr or on smaller phones, how can i catch this error so that i can continue with my application and display maybe an Alert to show that i cannot stretch the image.
