set text to a text field in jasper reports

can anyone please help me on how to set text to a exsisting text field in jasper reports? I want to change the text of existing text fields through the java code at run time. Thanks in advance

Just started toying with Jasper reports. I am going to send you off to do some reading because there's a lot I am finding out about manipulating reports through Jasper:
