I haven't tried it but you could try Apache POI for writing output in Microsoft Word format: http://poi.apache.org/

What sort of solution would be acceptable to you? I mean, what was wrong with POI?

You can google for other DOC writers, but I can't say if any will be simpler. One problem is that WORD documents have a proprietary format, so you wouldn't find any solutions that are part of the J2SE/J2EE.

How complex is the document you are trying to save in DOC format?

What is the source of this document?

Do you have to use DOC format? Are there alternatives?

              Hi Mak,

I think simply changing the response type will do the magic.
Read about setting response type in java if you dont already know.
              best of luck

Now I'm confused. What exactly are you doing? Creating a WORD document, or just moving files around?

Then he's laughing. Any servlet/jsp book has an example of that.
