determine system requirements for application

Dear members,
I have the doubt that if u want run java we need jvm,if u want run .net we need framework...... .............., suppose when i machine have any such technologies,su ppose i download the software(any) from net.and install it in my computer and use it.my question how it run.iam not have the knowledge the particular software mean what the technology they used.how it run in my computer
if i ask like stupid please forgive me

The place where you download the software from should describe what the minimum system requirements are to run the software.
