    Hi

Am just starting out using Java, what are the best resources to use to get
the most out of this language?

Hi - Please figure how to use the software you are
using to post to usenet, to the point where you do
not repost the same message 4 (or more) times to
    a usenet newsgroup.

A good group for those just starting out (with
Java and/or usenet) is comp.lang.java. help.

    1) An active brain and specific questions.
    ..
Wait, can you be more specific?
Are you talking tools (e.g. IDE's, build and source versioning),
points of help (usenet, help desk), materials that describe
the API's, or explain their use?

For the last two, see the JavaDocs and the Java Tutorial,
both online browsable, or downloadable for free, from Sun.
For points of help, see the earlier advice re c.l.j.help,
and as far as tools go, try Ant and a commonly used*
    IDE like NetBeans or Eclipse.

    * I say 'commonly used' because that offers the best
hope that when you ask 'how do I make my IDE do..'
type questions are less likely to attract an answer of
'ask the IDE maker'. I leave out 'good' since all the
major Java IDE's are 'good' according to their
    proponents.
