Help :sending a message through GPRS using java coding

hi,
i'm a new user of java and require to do the following tasks using java
1.connect a GPRS modem to a PC.
2. send a message over GPRS to another GPRS device (could be a GPRS modem connected similarly to another PC)
it would great if anyone could suggest a course of action and if there are codes available for the aforementioned tasks

I send AT commands to a GPRS modem from java (and C++) via the serial port using the Java Communications package

how is you modem connected?
