    patent

    Hello,

I work for a company located in UE. For now software isnt patented in UE but
    its gonna change.

    So i have a question:

if a company in US (where software can be patended)
develep program in i.e. in java and their programs displays
pictures in jpg . Do they have to buy licencse to jpg algorithm.

JPG is suported by java now - so sun must have bought the license.
Is this transferable - which mean - if java suprots jpg or gif and a
programmer or a company develops programs in java is it still necessry to
buy a license for jpg. We dont use jpg algorithm per se. We just wanna
    display images.

Im interested in situation in U.S. becasue i am gonna predict what will
happen if softwre would be subject to patents in UE.

    regards
    Sebastian

Probably better pointed at a lawyer, they make these stupid laws up to keep
them in business. JPG is controlled by a strange patent structure, visit

    for more information...

Basically stay well clear of JPEG and show your support for a patent free
graphics solution, such as PNG. Not sure about Java support though?
