Java app on Mac -- can't select input method

I have a java application that I'm trying to run on a Mac (Powerbook
    G5). When trying
to enter Chinese text into a text field, it's not allowing me to
    switch input methods.
"Simplified Chinese" is an option in the language dropdown, but
    selecting it does nothing.

This seems to be isolated to my application -- other applications let
    me switch just fine.

Is there some way to "register" this application as allowing Chinese
    input?

    AdTHANKSvance,

I don't know about your problem, but I would like to know where I can
get my hands on a Powerbook G5!! :-)
