several images and code or one image with less code

I've been creating menus with several small images and classes and alot of code. it's alot of work and I don't mind but wouldn't it just be better and easier to make a menu in powerpoint and just save the hole thing as a png? I don't understand the differance between uploading one image from the server as aposed to several smaller images. I'd really like to know which way would be best. I've learned to do it the way I am. going with the smaller images and code rather than one image, but I'm not sure on the best way to approch this. any help would be great on this topic. Thanks

Using powerpoint probably isn't the best way. Without seeing an example of the design it is hard to comment on how you should go about building it.

Could you post of picture of what you are trying to achieve?
