Yes it's true google will help you.... there are many websites which providing the same functionality as you wants... for example 160by2.com,wayt osms.com,gosms. in which allows users to send free sms to mobile...

I don't believe that's possible without using GSM (or CDMA).

You can send sms without using gsm modem by using other web services like 160by2.Com u can easily send sms

I think Wadja - Developer Tools is a good SMS Gateway, my friend is using it to send SMS in India.
