Data entry of day/month only

I have made a spread sheet, and in one column I only need to add day/month, but when I enter this on a new year and enter along, when I sort data by date, I have several sections, ones I entered in 2006, 2007 and now 2008, I formatted column dd/mmm but it still splits the year apart...any ideas?? thx.

is dd/mmm a typo?


and what do you mean by still splits that year apart?
