FTP downloads "finish" after two hours - what gives?

    Hi all.

Does anyone have any clue why any big FTP downloads I do in either FireFox or IE always terminate after two hours? It's always within a minute of the two-hour mark. I'm pretty sure it's not the FTP server's fault, as it has happened at multiple sites. Probably not ISP, as it followed me from one (ADSL) to another (cable). So by elimination, the problem would seem to be at my end.

They don't fail, they simply stop and say they're completed. I watched one which was supposed to be 994MB. IE reported it was up to 53% (yeah, going pretty slow) then suddenly it was completed. No errors, no indication anything was out of the ordinary.

Unfortunately I can't get to these particular files with a proper FTP client to see what happens, only through the browser. I'm currently trying the Firefox add-on "DownThemAl l" (DTA) to see what happens. So far it appears to be transferring faster than I've managed previously, but that could be just due to the time of day or something.

    This is under Windows XP-SP2.

Will provide further info if required, but I'm in a rush right now - gotta go.
