Its my assignment the queation is

what does't mean that IBM mainframe computers used to be called a closed properitary sytem.

It means that the source code of the system was owned by IBM exclusively and that no developers outside of IBM had direct access to the source code without paying lots of money to IBM to enter a partner agreement.

(Just playing around with the "unanswered questions" feature in the forums, and moving this out of the C/C++ Forum as it's obviously not a C/C++ question :)
