Every time I go to watch a video on you tube I am told that javascript is turned off or my flash player is out of date . I can not fix it as neither is the case.

well, if it says your javascript is turned off, check the internet options of your browser, and see if, under the advanced tab, make sure the checkbox(s) under the java header, are checked. i only have one but browsers are different, go to this site to get the latest flash player:
www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
and go to this site for the latest java :
www.java.com/getjava
