Word2003 form - how to default a date field to current date?

    Hi all.

I have a question from a colleague. He is creating a form in Word2003, which has a date field on it. He wants to set the default value to the current date, but allow the user to overwrite it. How can he do so? (He doesn't want to bother registering with TSDN, so I agreed to post the question.)

If he sets it as a current date field, it doesn't allow overwrite. But it seems as though the default value has to be a hard-coded date/time value, which is not appropriate. He has tried a number of what seemed likely possibilities such as "=Now" and so on (I suggested one or two, based on experience with default field values in Access).

I don't have any experience with forms in Word. But I note that you can set macros to be executed on entry and exit. Should I tell him he needs to use a macro to set it? (If so, I can provide the macro.)

So, no takers, after two weeks?

I'm shocked. What kind of weird forum is this? There should at least have been a flamewar here by now...

Guess I'll have to go and ask my question on <censored by Moderator> ;-)
