Db2 Create Tablespace Performance Impact

Anybody know why db2 heavily affect it's performance by DMS (using file) tablespace creation? During the creation process, almost all db2 activities pending...

Besides, the disks where the tablespace located always 100% busy at that time.

Hi,

when defining a new DMS tablespace based on a file, DB2 will create that file up to the defined size and format it internally with the structures/informations needed by DB2 itself. This causes a lot of disk I/O, slowing down all other processes.

Besides, I think the most influence factors for this slowdown due to latch and resources contention. I started a trace and here the findings:

1. Other new coming db2 connect request hang up and waiting for the latch held by "create tablespace" application until finish.

2. Other db2 application performing "create table" will wait for Memory Map synchronization until the "create table" application finish.

Is there anyone know IBM DB2 team aware of this or how to resolve it?
