Error Installing ESE Fixpack 9 for Windows - Help Please

    DB2 Team -

I just downloaded and unzipped the new Fixpack 9 for DB2 ESE V8 for
Windows (FP9_WR21350_ES E.exe). I then burned the unzipped Fixpack
files to a CD. I proceded to install this Fixpack on a test machine
running ESE but encountered a serious error during the install. It
started 'copying new files' but then stopped cold and displayed a
dialog box asking me to "Please insert disk 1". (It all fit on one
CD!) I clicked OK multiple times but the dialog box came right back
up. I was forced to click cancel and exit out of the install. What's
going on here?? Are some files missing from the Fixpack 9 image?

I looked into the install log file and cut out the snippet below for
    your review.

Action 13:38:23: InstallFiles. Copying new files

Just a guess, did you install additional products which should be
added to the install directory/CD ?
If so, check the fixpackreadme.t xt file for instructions.

No additional products are installed - just ESE.

What EXACTLY is the file system structure on the CD? Believe it or not, CD
        install requires a "specific" structure.
Try copying the CD to disk and installing from there. The disk structure is
not important. (No, I have no idea why).

Re: Error Installing ESE Fixpack 9 for Windows - Help Please

The problem lies in the fact that you can't change the media location
on the CD during an upgrade. This is a limitation of all Windows
Installer Based installations. Since you likely used the original CD
to install with - you will need to make sure that the Fixpak 9 CD uses
the same structure as the original CD.

This would typically mean setup.exe is at the root of the installation
CD and all of the cab files and MSI would be under \db2\Windows on the
          CD.

This should clear the problem up. When the installer is not using a CD
          this issue is irrelevent.

          Thanks,
          Andrew
